INTRODUCING PORTUGAL’S HIGHLY QUALIFIED ACTIVITIES RESEARCH RESIDENCY PROGRAM…

PRICED FROM JUST €180,000 ALL-IN

Portugal made residential property in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve region ineligible for Golden Visas at the end of 2021. Since then, more applicants have been opting for the now-increased €500,000 Golden Visa Fund option to generate reasonable ROI.

But Private Equity and Venture Capital Funds, by their very nature, carry a significant amount of risk. Plus, what if you don’t want to tie up €500K for five years or more..?

Fortunately, there are alternative – and radically more affordable – options to consider:

Leveraging the D3 Visa framework, the Highly Qualified Investor Visa as the name suggests – enables graduate professionals to obtain residency in Portugal on the basis of contributing to rural research projects in Portugal.

By its very nature, this option creates real-world ties between the investor and Portugal. (This is an aspect that is increasingly being emphasized during the Portuguese citizenship application process.)

Priced at only €180,000 inclusive of fees, this white-glove, end-to-end option can significantly reduce the opportunity costs of gaining a Portuguese Plan B. In addition, the high-priority nature of this visa category sees applicants approved in as little as 30 days…

How The Highly Qualified Applicant Visa Program Works…

This residency program caters for highly qualified individuals, i.e. applicants that hold a university degree, or bring cutting-edge expertise in the areas of AI, technology, or the STEM fields to the table.

To participate in this highly flexible Portuguese residency program, applicants must fund a research project under the auspices of a participating Portuguese university.

Qualifying applicants benefit from receipt of a so-called “letter of support” from the participating university – a crucial requirement towards meeting the residency program’s requirements.

Depending on the exact nature of the research project, the resulting deliverables can vary from research publications and feature films to the creation of valuable intellectual property (IP).

Similarly to the currently available (and very limited) Cultural Golden Visa donation options, the Highly Qualified Investor Program offers no capital guarantee, and is effectively a sunk-cost option.

The key reasons applicants choose either of these two options tend to be reduced opportunity costs, faster visa processing, and lower overall capital exposure.
